The oil and gas industry lacks the guidance and direction of a consistent “Competence Blueprint” resulting in a skewed and subjective misunderstanding of how competence should be managed.

The industry is riddled with training organisations that are jumping on the “competence bandwagon” without the method or principles to truly demonstrate how competence is evidenced in the workplace, leading organisations astray, causing confusion, an inconsistent understanding of what competence truly is and the belief that training equals competence.

Competence has been over complicated with the unnecessary practise of companies writing their own standards. Companies do not know where to start.
